Pharmacology
Dexlansoprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specifically inhibiting the (H+/K+)-ATPase enzyme in the gastric parietal cell.
It is the R-enantiomer of lansoprazole and is formulated as a Dual Delayed Release (DDR) capsule containing two types of enteric-coated granules with different pH-dependent dissolution profiles.
This dual release system produces two plasma peaks — one within 1–2 hours and another within 4–5 hours, ensuring prolonged acid suppression.
Dexlansoprazole is extensively metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly through urine.
