Description

💊 Sinocal D – Calcium Carbonate 500 mg

Manufacturer: SinoHealth Pharmaceuticals LTD

1. Presentation:

  • Tablet: 500 mg Calcium Carbonate (equivalent to Elemental Calcium 200 mg approx.)

2. Description / Pharmacology:

Calcium carbonate is a calcium supplement and antacid that helps maintain calcium balance in the body.
It reacts with gastric acid to form calcium chloride, water, and carbon dioxide, thereby neutralizing excess stomach acid:
CaCO₃ + 2HCl → CaCl₂ + H₂O + CO₂

This reaction increases gastric pH and reduces pepsin activity, providing relief from acidity.
Up to 30% of the oral dose of calcium carbonate is absorbed from the intestine.

3. Indications:

Sinocal D 500 mg is indicated for the treatment or prevention of calcium deficiency in patients with inadequate dietary calcium intake.
It is useful in:

  • Hypoparathyroidism

  • Vitamin D deficiency

  • Chronic diarrhea or steatorrhea

  • Pregnancy & lactation

  • Postmenopausal women

  • Renal failure or dialysis patients (as phosphate binder)

  • Prevention of osteoporosis
